42 Bar Street
YO11 2HT

A local crafter is moving to new and larger premises due to the success of her handmade gifts and keepsakes.

Karon Wallis, founder of Lilly’s Treasures, is moving from the Market Vaults to 42 Bar Street in Scarborough with a grand opening at 11am on Friday 26th July by Councillor Mrs Hazel Lynskey Mayor of Scarborough.

Karon said: “I am delighted to be moving to the new site with an opening date of 26th July, and Mayor will be cutting the ribbon at 11am as part of the celebrations.”

Karon, who moved to Scarborough following a career in the social sector, handcrafts bespoke gifts and keepsakes for weddings, birthdays and other life celebrations.

Karon said: “My time in the Market Vaults has been a very enjoyable one and it is a very supportive place to have a business.

“However, Lilly’s Treasures has outgrown this location and I’m very much looking forward to opening my new shop in July and being part of the Bar Street community.”

Karon’s creations are made either at her premises or at home and her new premises will offer a memorable shopping experience. This includes a free gift-wrapping service for items bought in our new shop.

Karon said: “My creations are made with a great deal of thought and love. Customers love the items they buy for that special occasion.”

Karon was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a condition that affects mainly females and causes severe and debilitating pain throughout the body. Karon began her creative enterprise as a distraction from the discomfort and by doing so discovered her creative talents.

Karon recently moved from the Midlands to the coast. She said: “Scarborough is a truly inspirational place and to be able to live and work here is a real blessing.”

YO21 3PP

This year’s Whitby Beer Festival held in aid of Whitby & District Lion’s Club is being held from Thursday 25th July until Sunday 28th July at the Whitby Mission & Seafarers Centre, Haggersgate in Whitby. The festival has over 30 real beers and ciders to sample, which means there are no mass-produced beer here, only authentic, delicious, hand crafted, regionally produced Real Ales and Ciders.

All money raised from the festival helps to support the many local Whitby charities which Whitby Lion's donate to each year, we also give vital funds to the many personal good causes within the local area which in particularly find it hard to access and raise the funding required. As a club, we also run our Disability Scooter Scheme which hires out mobility scooters (free of charge) to anyone who has difficulty getting out and about. We also have an ongoing effort to raise awareness of diabetes through a number of different events throughout the year.

This year we will be celebrating our 10th beer festival, over the last ten years we have raised many thousands of pounds for local Whitby charities and good causes. Our 2018 festival was very successful, which we raised £5K for local charities.

The festival boasts more than 30 real ales and ciders, all available to sample (in ½ pint measures), giving you the perfect opportunity to experience and appreciate the wonderful variety of styles and flavours on offer.

Fresh, locally produced food will be available throughout the festival period and may provide a complimentary addition to your choice of beverage.

The festival is open for all to enjoy and in the past has attracted an excellent variety of visitors including families, holiday makers and real ale enthusiasts! Everyone is warmly welcomed to the event, though we do aim to encourage a responsible and relaxed atmosphere for all to enjoy.

On behalf of Whitby & District Lions, we thank you for your past and continued support of this local charity event and look forward whole heartedly to seeing you there!

£5.00 entry fee includes: a commemorative festival glass tankard (to keep), festival real ale and cider guide and 1 beer token.

Stephen Joseph Theatre

When families get together to celebrate a special occasion, there’s a danger that all hell will break loose. Particularly if you happen to be trapped for several days with all your relatives and copious amounts of alcohol...

Neville and Belinda are hosting their extended family over a long weekend. The presence of two tyrannical uncles – Bernard, whose ham-fisted annual puppet shows are a source of dread to young and old alike, and TV addict Harvey – promises to stir up trouble from the start. And that’s before you add to the mix broken toys, creaking marriages and guest novelist Clive, whose relationship with Belinda’s sister Rachel is going nowhere, causing him to look for love elsewhere.

Directed by the author, this is the first time that the Stephen Joseph Theatre has staged Season’s Greetings since its premiere here in 1980. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see a sparkling new production of a classic Ayckbourn comedy.
