As you may have seen in the local press, the University of Hull is investing in an ambitious new five-year partnership with two grassroots sports clubs in Scarborough.

We would like to invite you to join us in celebrating the launch of the partnership with a family open day on Saturday 13 April at 1pm.

More than £60,000 is being invested by the University to help Dexter’s Surf School and Desapline Martial Arts upgrade their facilities and increase their capacity so more people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, can have the opportunity to use these transformative organisations.

This partnership will be delivered through the University’s Scarborough-based North Yorkshire Partnership Hub, which has worked with these clubs for some time as part of the successful Scarborough & North Yorkshire Children’s University programme.

You are invited to attend a free activity-filled open day on 13 April at the North Bay Piazza, Scarborough from 1pm. There will demonstrations from both clubs, free “give it a go” sessions where you can try activities like kick-boxing, surfing and paddle boarding with the professional club staff. Also from 3pm, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust Waves of Waste group will be hosting a beach clean that you are welcome to take part in, along with University students.

We hope you can join us for this fun day and bring the good weather with you!

It’s Josie Botting’s big birthday and family, friends gather to celebrate. As a work-from-home dominatrix she’s lost the will to dominate and really isn’t in the mood to party. Her most loyal client Lionel is keen to mark the occasion and arranges for a special appearance from the ‘King’… well, Elvis impersonator Timothy Wong.

Her daughter Brenda-Marie with a wisdom beyond her years; Martha - Josie’s devout Irish cleaner who’s none the wiser about Josie’s ‘job’ and happy to keep it that way, make up the party but then an unexpected guest arrives that has the potential to upstage the King himself.

Heartfelt, poignant, and funny in equal measure, Martha, Josie and the Chinese Elvis captures the glimmer of promise and potential that lies in all of us - shining a spotlight on the opportunities that are out there, if only we choose to take them.
