Great British Spring Clean (Keep Britain Tidy)

Friday 22nd March, 2019 11:00am to 12:00pm

Email: whitbybeachsweep@gmail.com

Please meet in front of Arnold Palmer Putting Course
north promenade
Whitby.

Whitby Beach Sweep invite you to join us for the Great British Spring Clean inspired by Keep Britain Tidy. Over the course of a month Keep Britain Tidy are encouraging individuals and groups to hold their own clean up wherever they may be. We have decided our March Clean will be involved in this initiative and we have registered the beach clean on their website, we will hopefully reach a wider audience by doing so and perhaps meet some new volunteers whilst we are at it!

Things will run as normal like previous cleans so please meet in front of the Arnold Palmer Putting Course on North Promenade, Whitby. Friday 22nd March at 11am. We will then cover the zig zags down to the beach and walk along to the pier. The clean usually takes about 1 hour.

We will have gloves to borrow and bags to use for rubbish and recycling. However if you would like a litter picker we recommend bringing your own as our supplies are running low as not all equipment has been returned at the end of the beach cleans. It is really important that anything borrowed is given back please, we run on donations and we have very limited money to keep replacing stock. We strongly advise investing in a pair of gloves and litter pick, this would be a great help. We encourage reusable bags or containers to help cut down on plastic bags being used.

La Rosa are kindly providing drinks for all volunteers after the beach clean, this is a great opportunity to catch up on what you’ve found and any problem areas you’ve come across.

We will be using both #whitbybeachsweep and #GBSpringclean for any social media shares and pictures uploaded so we can connect both locally and nationally.

Due to the colder weather creeping in and unpredictable forecasts please check the morning of the event that the beach sweep is still going ahead, as cancellation is possible.

Please can you ensure that you are dressed correctly for this event. Waterproofs, good footwear, sun cream are all things to consider.

*Please be careful of the tide at all times and beware of the cliffs. Do not walk directly under the cliff face or try to scale them due to loose falling rocks. Your safety is most important.*

Disclaimer; all participants attend at their own risk. You are responsible for your own health and safety. The tools you use at your own risk.
All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Parents leave their children at the beach clean at their own risk. SAS staff/ reps/volunteer beach clean organisers have no child care provision and are in no way accountable for juveniles (or adults) attending this event.
