5 SOLDIERS: The Body is the Front Line

Thursday 7th February, 2019 7:00pm to 8:05pm

Tel: [anonymised]

Email: [anonymised]

Web: http://www.sjt.uk.com

A thrilling and humane portrait of army life telling the stories of men and women serving on the front line.

In 2008, choreographer Rosie Kay joined the 4th Battalion The Rifles, to watch and participate in full battle exercises, and visited the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre for our Armed Forces. What came of these observations was this award-winning, five-star work.

5 Soldiers offers no moral stance on war. Instead it questions what it is that we ask of our soldiers and explores how the human body remains essential to war, even in the 21st century.

A landmark work telling the stories of frontline soldiers through dance.

★★★★★ The Independent ★★★★★ The Observer ★★★★★ The Herald ★★★★★ The Scotsman

In 2008, choreographer Rosie Kay joined the 4th Battalion The Rifles, to watch and participate in full battle exercises, and visited the National Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre. What came of these observations was the award-winning, five-star work 5 SOLDIERS.

"A disturbing, illuminating and neccessary glimpse into a world we mostly prefer to ignore", The Guardian, Top 10 Dance of 2015

A visceral ‘tour de force’ of the senses, 5 SOLDIERS has a powerful physicality, moments of humour and is full of honesty, all inspired by careful observation and input from serving and former soldiers. The story is one of physical and psychological transformation, using the body as a shared medium to start conversations about identity, discipline, motivation and trauma.

Rosie Kay is choreographer of the Commonwealth Games Handover Ceremony and the hit film Sunshine on Leith. Her trademark style of intense physical and athletic dance theatre aims to thrill and move.

"War from a female perspective packs a punch…taut, visceral, compassionate” The Observer

In association with the British Army.
