People are being invited to attend two programmes of free workshops to help improve mental health and well-being.
The workshops will both take place weekly on Thursdays in Scarborough starting on Thursday 10th January with one course focusing on mental health awareness and the other on behaviour and communication.

The five-week Mental Health Awareness course will run for two hours from 10.00am to midday and will cover a range of topics including mental health awareness and well-being, confidence building, anxiety management, recovery and resilience and managing worry and stress.

The second programme – Behaviour Change and Communication – will take place over four afternoon sessions between 1.00pm to 3.00pm. These will focus on anger management, communication skills, advocacy, managing conflict and building networks and relationships.

The workshops are being held at Falsgrave Community Resource Centre on Seamer Road and are delivered by an SWR Mind support worker as well as one of our volunteers. If cost of transport is a barrier to access, we have a small fund to pay for local public transport or may be able to help with arranging a lift. Places are limited and must be booked in advance so if you would like more information, to ask about transport or to book a place, contact Philip Hemingway at the SWR Mind office on 01723 356 562.

This Thursday 10th January at our Lunchtime Concert at Scarborough Library, we present Frank James (pianist) in concert. Frank will be presenting a nostalgic journey in music that has been important to him throughout his life. This season will be our final one as Frank is retiring so it will be an emotional concert.It will cover everything from his time as a choirboy at Public School to finishing his education at Oxford. His career was full of interesting adventures from playing in Peasholm Park and working on Cruise Ships to teaching Philosophy and music along with so much more.

The concert starts at 12.30pm, lasts about an hour and admission is by donation on the door.

*Next week's concert is "The Dvorak Story" starring Pianist Frank James and Narrator Maria Billington & as always the concert is at Scarborough library, starts at 12:30pm, lasts an hour and is by donation on the door.

At the Whitby Rugby club starting at 7.30pm on Thursday the 8th November and then weekly from there on. The club will be known as The Jukebox Ukes and will be open to all , there will be a choice of songs projected onto a screen on the wall so all will be able to follow. So don’t forget your Ukes.

The aim of the club is to allow people of all ages to enjoy their music in a group environment and hopefully learn from each other, so come along if you are both an experienced player, a beginner or anywhere in between.
This is a new venture so we hope it will grow so please come along on Thursday the 8th.
