Discover the perfect gifts and talented makers behind them on Saturday 1st December at the Royal Hotel, Scarborough.

Etsy North Yorkshire Coast & Moors is helping festive shoppers in the area connect with local makers and designers at Etsy Made Local – Scarborough event at the Royal Hotel, St Nicholas Street, Scarborough on Saturday 1st December 2018, 10am to 4pm.

This event will be the perfect destination where shoppers can get ahead of the Christmas rush and find those unique and meaningful gifts.

A total of 24 Etsy North Yorkshire Coast & Moors makers will be selling at the event, with creations ranging from bags to bangles. The event will give the people of Scarborough and the surrounding area the chance to discover some of the best of the area’s creative community. The event will allow shoppers to connect with and buy directly from local makers and designers who also sell on Esty, the global website for unique and handcrafted goods.

Katy Armstrong, the organiser of the event, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for shoppers from far and wide to discover the creative talent in the area.

“This is a unique chance to meet makers face to face and see the person behind the various creations.”

Etsy Made Local – Scarborough is also being held on Small Business Saturday and the Etsy NYCM Team has recently been nominated for the Arts and Culture award at the Bridlington and Yorkshire Coast Business Awards.

Whitby Winterfest is a Christmas event for all the community and is taking place for the third time this year. Winterfest is FREE to enter for all and takes place within the main hall (Northern Lights Suite) of the Whitby Pavilion. Opening times are Saturday 1st December 10am to 6pm and Sunday 2nd December 10am to 6pm.

The event will showcase a wide variety of traders selling things such as locally produced food stuffs, individually crafted jewellery and gifts, handmade made art works and much more. Each day there will be a programme of entertainment from local groups and performers on the main stage with a seating area in front for visitors to enjoy the performances. As with all great Christmas events Santa will be there in his specially created Grotto for the children to visit.

Santa Specials at North Bay Railway

Come down to the North Bay Railway in Scarborough to join in the festive celebrations
and most importantly meet Santa himself.
The first Santa Special train will be departing from Peasholm Station at 2pm on Saturday 1st December
other times are 3pm & 4pm. Other dates are 2nd
23rd & 24th December. We also advise everyone to pre book via the web site or in person at the North Bay Railway. You will need to pre-book for any of the the Twilight Train at 4pm & 5pm as space will be limited.
Our Evening Santa Express are running Friday 7th
14th and 21st December at 5.30pm
6.30pm and 7.30pm. So why not bring your children down to the North Bay Railway and enjoy a magical journey to Scalby Mills to find Santa and bring him back to his Grotto at Peasholm. Every child will receive a quality gift and there will be a mince pie and festive tipple for the adults.
This year we have added trains on Christmas Eve
we recommend you pre book as we expect 24th December to be very busy.

2017 saw the introduction of "Filey's Fishtive Tree" (a giant Christmas tree made out of crab and lobster pots). This year, the tree and switch-on event is getting even bigger! The switch-on of the lights on December 1st between 4.30pm and 5.30pm will feature Christmas entertainment and even real snow. There will be food and drink on sale and the amusement arcade will be open. The countdown and switch-on will be done by someone very special. The tree will be lit up during the hours of darkness from 1st December through to the first week of January. The snow machine will be operating periodically each weekend in December, plus extra days between Christmas & New Year. This is a FREE event, paid for an organised by Filey Fishermen and local businesses and community groups. There will be collection boxes for visitors to make donation with any money raised being shared among local youth projects/groups
