Apollo Music and Promotions in association with the Scarborough Market Hall and Neue Regel Radio are very honoured to announce that the legendary TOYAH will be playing with support from Danse Sociity and The Sub Gents.

TOYAH

From punk princess to cult stage actress to high priestess of TV, TOYAH WILLCOX is a uniquely gifted performer and an inextinguishable flame. Charismatic, outspoken and impossible to categorise, she is one of Britain’s iconic household names – an award-winning rock legend as well as a much-loved stage/screen actress and music composer.

In a career spanning over 40 years Toyah has amassed thirteen top 40 singles, recorded twenty-four albums, written two books, appeared in over forty stage plays, acted in twenty feature films and presented hundreds of television programmes.

It all began in her hometown Birmingham in 1977 when film director Derek Jarman offered her the role of ‘Mad’ in seminal punk epic Jubilee. She continued to gain strong roles, appearing alongside Katherine Hepburn in the film, The Corn is Green, as well as playing ‘Monkey’ in the legendary and still iconic Quadrophenia. She teamed up with Jarman again to play Miranda in his innovative version of The Tempest, which won her a nomination as Best Newcomer at the 1980 Evening Standard Awards.

The hit singles It’s A Mystery, I Want to Be Free, Brave New World and platinum-selling albums Anthem and The Changeling confirmed her status as one of the most significant talents of the 1980s. In 1982 she won the Best Female Singer at the British Rock & Pop Awards, who went on to become The Brits.

Toyah’s most recent acting work includes acclaimed cult Brit film Ahhhhhhhh!, directed by Steve Oram and co-starring Julian Rhind-Tutt, Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt. Toyah has a cameo role in British thriller Extremis for which Toyah and Simon Darlow have co-written and produced the end credits song Our Hearts Still Beat; Toyah plays the wife of a character played by Harvey Keitel in the forthcoming Lies We Tell, directed by Mitu Misra and co-starring Gabriel Byrne.

Toyah is currently completing film roles as Francis Meynell in the period piece Hound – The Life of the poet Francis Thompson, a new film by Chris Ward. Later in 2017, Toyah shoots To Be Someone based on a book of the same name, will continue the adventures and lives of many of the original characters from Quadrophenia. Willcox will also shoot a role in British horror film SwipeRight, based on a internet dating app and stars in another Steve Oram production entitled Dregs.

2018 sees a major year of celebration or Toyah as she celebrates her 60th birthday and 40th anniversary of her music career. Her 1987 album Desire (featuring guest playing from Robert Fripp and Ronnie Wood) will be issued as a new limited edition translucent red vinyl LP on 21 April for Record Store Day 2018.

Funhouse Comedy Club, which already runs successful nights at numerous venues all over the country, is excited to announce the launch of their brand new comedy night at The Holiday Inn, Doncaster on Saturday February 29th.

Funhouse Comedy Clubs are renowned for having exceptionally friendly audiences and a brilliant atmosphere which have led to twice winning Best Midlands Comedy Club awards with leading comedy website Chortle. Previous acts to have played its clubs on their road to fame and fortune include Sarah Millican, Joe Lycett, James Acaster and Rhod Gilbert, who described the clubs as "among the best anywhere in the world."

Topping the bill is the award winning Nathan Caton, star of radio and TV, including TV’s Live At The Apollo, Mock The Week, Russell Howard's Good News and BBC Radio 4's 'Can't Tell Nathan Caton Nothing', which had its 3rd series in 2014. He started his comedy career as a 19 year old and immediately started winning awards. He has been called the most exciting young black comic on the circuit and combines his laidback, clear-cut material with his art of cutting down 'fools' both in everyday life and the media.

Opening the night will be Steve Shanyaski who, following his appearance last year on ITV's 'Comedy Rocks' hosted by 'Jason Manford was asked to appear on the live show at Manchester Lowry for the Royal Variety Performance. Audiences never fail to be drawn to his excitable and genuinely warm persona. He's like a hurricane appearing on stage full of energy and madness and then proceeds to delight with his uproariously funny material.

Compere for the night will be confident, amiable and amusing Dave Bryon.

Darren Styles, a man that needs no introduction after reigning at the top of his game for over 20 years. He has headlined the biggest stages around the globe including Creamfields, Tomorowland, EDC Vegas and Defqon Holland (to name a few).

Mr Styles by name and also by nature; as a master of multiple genres, from Hardcore to Hardstyle, he frequently graces the lineups of many of the hard EDM festivals/charts.

Best known for his chart topping hits "Save Me" and "Your My Angel", he has more recently become one of the best selling artists on the highly respected MonsterCat imprint releasing anthems such as "Us Against the World" and his three-way collaboration with fellow hardcore heads Gammer and Dougal - "Party Don't Stop".

Since setting up his own Electric Fox label with Da Tweekaz, his stock has risen into the stratosphere and has blown away the scene with the seminal release of "Switch", a track played by every DJ across a multitude of genres and dance scenes.

His B2B sets with Ben Nicky have witnessed an artist pushing himself to the very limits of his creativity.

Tickets are on sale via Skiddle. Get yours now and keep your eyes out for some tasty competitions and prizes including a meet and greet with the artists.
