Strike for the Climate

Friday 20th September, 2019 11:30am

Young people in the UK who have been striking for the climate are calling on adults to join them on Friday 20 September as part of a massive global day of action.

A crucial demonstration is taking place this Friday 20th Sept, The Global Climate Strike. Workers and students coming together like this creates our best chance of stopping catastrophic climate change. Student-led demonstrations are taking place across the globe and this time adults have been asked to join in, and demand our leaders act NOW to save our future.
The Scarborough event starts 11:30am at the clock tower (now Bed King) by Falsgrave lights. Join us for a short march to the town centre midday rally (family-friendly, with activities and speeches).

Reiki Healing, is a form of energy healing, that can help with physical, mental and emotional problems, by clearing blocked energy points on your body. The drop in is so that people can come and have a chat and a taster session to see if this would help with any of their problems. I have seen significant results in clients with rheumatism, arthritis, back pain, migraines and chronic conditions such as Fibromyalgia. Come and see if we can help you.

Stephen Joseph Theatre

When families get together to celebrate a special occasion, there’s a danger that all hell will break loose. Particularly if you happen to be trapped for several days with all your relatives and copious amounts of alcohol...

Neville and Belinda are hosting their extended family over a long weekend. The presence of two tyrannical uncles – Bernard, whose ham-fisted annual puppet shows are a source of dread to young and old alike, and TV addict Harvey – promises to stir up trouble from the start. And that’s before you add to the mix broken toys, creaking marriages and guest novelist Clive, whose relationship with Belinda’s sister Rachel is going nowhere, causing him to look for love elsewhere.

Directed by the author, this is the first time that the Stephen Joseph Theatre has staged Season’s Greetings since its premiere here in 1980. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see a sparkling new production of a classic Ayckbourn comedy.

"‘Towards A Plastic-Free Whitby’
Whitby Pavilion café, 21st September 11am-3pm

Hosted by the Whitby Greens the event is free and everyone is welcome to drop in.
Local groups will be showcasing what they are doing to reduce single use plastics in this area.

One of the organisers, Howard Green says “I’m sure we are all aware of the increasing problems with litter and waste but the pictures of sea animals all over the world with plastic in their bodies is horrifying. As well as helping people to avoid single use plastics we want to make this a fun occasion with children’s events, movies, beach trash art and music.”

Single use plastics are things like water bottles, crisp packets, some fast food packaging, some buckets and spades etc. etc. And these will stay in the environment for thousands of years. They could all be replaced by biodegradable or multi use alternatives.

Groups attending include: Surfers Against Sewage, Whitby Beach Sweep, the North Yorkshire Rotters (with their famous bicycle-powered smoothie maker!) Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, Whitby in Bloom, the Labour Party showcasing their Green Transformation, WASP (Whitby Against Single-use Plastics) and some local shops. The event is supported by the Scarborough and Whitby Green Party of which Whitby Greens is a part."
