Walking the Walk (Sponsored Walk)
7th April 2019
Start time: 10.30 @ Raven Hall Hotel, Ravenscar
Finish time: (approx 4-6 hours walking) @ Scarborough Castle

Scarborough & Ryedale Carers Resource is busy preparing for their first ever sponsored walk on 7th April 2019. We are planning to walk with three other local charities (S&R Mind, YMCA, S&R Mountain Rescue) from Ravenscar to Scarborough - more specifically from the Raven Hall Hotel to the Castle! The walk is designed to offer families (service-users, friends and supporters) an opportunity to spend a Sunday together, walk, talk and raise funds!!

We are supported by Scarborough Hospitality Association who will be helping at the start and end of the race and by NYCC Stronger Communities who will (amongst other things) be making sure we have refreshments on route to help us keep us going.

The walk is 12 miles long and is largely on the flat (the old railway line), BUT there is a hill finish up to the castle just to test us all! We hope the route makes it possible to maximise the number of walkers interested in taking part - young and not so young!

Fundraising is a massive job for all small charities - but our existence depends on it. We appreciate everything communities and individuals do for us in terms of raising the profile of our organisations, offering time as volunteers, and where possible, supporting us financially to enable more work and support to happen.

All four charities taking part in this sponsored walk are keen to confirm the funds raised will go directly to supporting individuals in our local community.

A reminder - we would love you to walk for one or all of the charities:
- Scarborough & Ryedale Carers Resource
- Scarborough & Ryedale MIND
- Scarborough & Ryedale Mountain Rescue
- and Scarborough YMCA.

Together we offer a significant range of support services; we connect people and communities; and generate some amazing volunteering opportunities. All of us have our individual objectives BUT collectively we have some common goals:
- to enrich the lives of local residents
- to reduce loneliness and isolation and to help people build positive wellbeing
- to work together to maximise outcomes for everyone involved

Your support to build on this work is precious - we hope to see you on the walk :)

It’s Josie Botting’s big birthday and family, friends gather to celebrate. As a work-from-home dominatrix she’s lost the will to dominate and really isn’t in the mood to party. Her most loyal client Lionel is keen to mark the occasion and arranges for a special appearance from the ‘King’… well, Elvis impersonator Timothy Wong.

Her daughter Brenda-Marie with a wisdom beyond her years; Martha - Josie’s devout Irish cleaner who’s none the wiser about Josie’s ‘job’ and happy to keep it that way, make up the party but then an unexpected guest arrives that has the potential to upstage the King himself.

Heartfelt, poignant, and funny in equal measure, Martha, Josie and the Chinese Elvis captures the glimmer of promise and potential that lies in all of us - shining a spotlight on the opportunities that are out there, if only we choose to take them.
