A top stylist is hosting an evening of style and colour to raise much needed funds for a Yorkshire Coast based mental health charity. Expert in colour analysis, Elaine Gill, is hosting the event at the Talbot Hotel in Malton on Monday 27th March to raise money for Scarborough Whitby and Ryedale Mind (SWR Mind). During the evening she will be helping people to make the most out of their own style to enhance their look and advise on how to create a capsule wardrobe. There will also be a demonstration on colour matching, advice on choosing make-up colours followed by a question and answer session.

Christine Gilkes, Chair of SWR Mind received a birthday gift of a day with Elaine and said “this was the perfect birthday present. It was great fun, with lots of giggles as well as being really enlightening. It changed not only the way I look, but has made shopping a much more focussed and pleasurable experience. Elaine came to me highly recommended and she was warm, friendly and hugely knowledgeable. 10 years on and I’m still following her advice to the letter. There is so much more to looking good, feeling confident and getting a style that reflects your personality!”

CEO for SWR Mind Sophie Hall said “I think this will be a great night. Having your own style that reflects your personality can be a real confidence booster and an integral part of self-esteem. Thanks to the Talbot, the night is being held in a beautiful location. Every year our organisation is approached by hundreds of people seeking support. With secure funding becoming difficult to find, events like these are so vital to keeping our organisation going and we hope people will come along, enjoy a great night and help support people in their local community.”

Tickets are priced £15 which includes refreshments. Numbers are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Tickets can be purchased from reception at the Talbot Hotel or from the SWR Mind office at Falsgrave Community Centre in Scarborough over the telephone on 01723 356562 or email info@swrmind.org.uk

Lunchtime Lecture with Tim Tubbs

Woodend
The Crescent
Scarborough
YO11 2PW

Join Tim Tubbs in the handsome, panelled Sitwell Library at Woodend for more enjoyable Tuesday lunchtime lectures on popular historical and literary subjects.

"THE ROARING GIRLS" - March/April series
Shakespearian London dubbed its noisily delinquent, carousing or independent women The Roaring Girls. These four lectures explore the alternative lives of 16th, 17th & 18th century women who defied convention to live outside the expected female roles, pursuing outrageous careers, lifestyles and public images.

Thieves & Cutpurses - 14 March
Immortalised as Moll Cutpurse in Middleton & Dekker's 1610 hit play The Roaring Girls, Mary Frith was a cross-dressing London pickpocket and fence. A century later, Jane Webb found fame as 'Jenny Diver', a skilled con-artist and thief. Both led gangs, behaved outrageously and did as they pleased, breaking all the rules of womanly conduct.

Playhouse Creatures - 21 March
The first women actresses of the Restoration playhouses were stars, but their fame came at a considerable price, as they trod a perilous line between celebrity, success, exploitation and disaster, as we see in the lives of Nell Gwynne, Mary Betterton, Elizabeth Barry and their contemporaries.

Female Pirates - 28 March
It would be hard to identify a more shocking subversive female career choice than piracy on the high seas, hence the legendary reputation of Anne Bonny and Mary Read in the so-called 'Golden Age of Piracy'. We shall also consider 16th century female buccaneers Lady Killigrew and Grace O'Malley, the "Pirate Queen of Connaught'.

Marriage, Divorce & Law - 4 April
Meet two very different ladies, who challenged convention, rejecting the traditional wifely role, invoking the law courts to resolve their marital difficulties or make a financial killing: the beautiful, litiginous forger, Lady Theodosia Ivie (1623-1695) and Georgian Britain's richest heiress, Mary Eleanor Bowes (1749-1800)

Tickets £5 per lecture ( £4 concession)
£15 for series ( £12 concession)
