This course aims to help you enjoy singing with others and to feel the health benefits of singing. You do not have to be a music reader or be able to sing solo.A range of songs will be taught by ear - rounds , polyphony and harmony songs from around the world. You'll learn about different cultures and song traditions and there will be an opportunity to sing together in a different environment each term - so far we have sung in a hospital ward, a shopping centre and a 6th century church crypt...Come along and learn about singing mindfully, how to use your whole body to sing and how to sing in parts. The Priceless Persian Pearl of Peace is missing, Presumed Purloined and Sinbad is the Prime Suspect! To clear his name - and win the hand of Princess Miranda - he must undertake a perilous voyage to recover the Pearl. Along the way battling evil spirits, slave traders and undersea monsters in a frantic race against time!

Packed full of comedy, adventure, song and dance, lavish costumes and spectacular scenery this is another Wonderful, Traditional Pantomime for all the family.

Traditional dances from E. Europe, Greece, Near East, etc., plus recent choreographies to various music - some moderately lively, some slow and meditative. Dances for enjoyment, relaxation, mobility and co-ordination. Beginners welcome. A variety of traditional and modern dances will be taught, taking into account the abilities and preferences of the group. Traditional dances will be mainly from E. & S.E Europe, and parts of the Near East. Most dances are done in a circle with hands joined and do not involve partners. There will be a selection of slow, medium and livelier dances. The emphasis will be on enjoyment and participation. Aspects of learning the dances include - co-operating with others to best do the dances; appreciation of music and rhythms from around the world; learning of basic step sequences; and attention to posture in dancing - how we hold our bodies, and how to dance in a relaxed fashion.

People are being invited to attend two programmes of free workshops to help improve mental health and well-being.
The workshops will both take place weekly on Thursdays in Scarborough starting on Thursday 10th January with one course focusing on mental health awareness and the other on behaviour and communication.

The five-week Mental Health Awareness course will run for two hours from 10.00am to midday and will cover a range of topics including mental health awareness and well-being, confidence building, anxiety management, recovery and resilience and managing worry and stress.

The second programme – Behaviour Change and Communication – will take place over four afternoon sessions between 1.00pm to 3.00pm. These will focus on anger management, communication skills, advocacy, managing conflict and building networks and relationships.

The workshops are being held at Falsgrave Community Resource Centre on Seamer Road and are delivered by an SWR Mind support worker as well as one of our volunteers. If cost of transport is a barrier to access, we have a small fund to pay for local public transport or may be able to help with arranging a lift. Places are limited and must be booked in advance so if you would like more information, to ask about transport or to book a place, contact Philip Hemingway at the SWR Mind office on 01723 356 562.

At the Whitby Rugby club starting at 7.30pm on Thursday the 8th November and then weekly from there on. The club will be known as The Jukebox Ukes and will be open to all , there will be a choice of songs projected onto a screen on the wall so all will be able to follow. So don’t forget your Ukes.

The aim of the club is to allow people of all ages to enjoy their music in a group environment and hopefully learn from each other, so come along if you are both an experienced player, a beginner or anywhere in between.
This is a new venture so we hope it will grow so please come along on Thursday the 8th.
