SJT- The show will go on (we’re just not sure when…)

We don't need to tell you that we’re living in very strange times. We wanted to let you all know that the SJT is going to be closed for the foreseeable future – we really hope to be up and running again as soon as possible but, of course, we can’t say for sure when that will be.

Our current plans are based on being closed for most of the planned summer season, which means we’ll no longer be presenting Just Between Ourselves, The Ladykillers or Truth Will Out this year. If things start to change for the better before the autumn, we want to assure you we can get up and running quite quickly, with two shows that are almost ready to go.

Jim Cartwright’s TWO, our co-production with Hull Truck Theatre, was due to run there from 5 to 28 March, and then come to us from 31 March to 18 April. It actually had its last performance on Saturday 20 March, and is now in storage (the set, not the actors!) at Hull Truck. But it’s pretty much ready to go – we’d just need to get the set up here and into our Round, and a couple of days of re-rehearsal, and the show would go on…

We were also well advanced with our preparations for the Easter family show, Saviour Pirotta’s adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood. The set is built and just needs a few licks of paint, the actors are primed and just need a couple of weeks’ rehearsal – that could also be on our stage quite quickly.

We could also bring in films for our cinema at relatively short notice, plus schedule a few rehearsed playreadings… we could actually pull together a programme of great entertainment for you quite quickly. Here’s hoping!

In the meantime please keep safe and well, we will keep in touch and update you as things progress.

We really hope to see you soon
From all your friends at the SJT!
