Legs for Angel

Thank you to everyone that supported our Legs for Angel Appeal.

Angel is a 6 year old Scarborough girl who was born with deformed legs due to a genetic condition called ectrodactyly-ectodermal dysplasia-clefting syndrome (EEC). At 9 months old, Angel had her left leg amputated, and since then she has had 7 major operations to try to correct her right leg. After the operation, Angel was in bed for 6 awful months. This year, Angel will need her right leg amputating too. Angel wants to have a normal childhood, she wants to learn to swim, paddle in the sea and stand up in the shower. For this, the family need to buy water activity legs. These cost around £3,000 each.

The NHS will only fund a very basic prosthetic leg and for a little girl who is eager to enjoy life this isn't enough. She cannot get her current prosthetic leg wet, which is so restrictive. Angel cannot do so many things that her friends do and living by the sea in beautiful Scarborough this seems especially cruel.

As Angel grows, she will need new legs every year to 18 months.

We set out to raise enough money to buy Angel a pair of waterproof legs with the target to raise at least £6,000 by September 2014.  Thanks to your generosity and support, we've masively surpassed the total, which will provide legs for Angel for years to come!
