Hub Manager, North Yorkshire Coast Opportunity Area

Based in Scarborough, Whitby or Filey

Apply for this job

Experienced project manager needed, background in education, local government or relationship building and excellent knowledge of North Yorkshire coastal communities. You will lead activity to improve literacy skills, working with local partners.

We are recruiting a manager to lead our National Literacy Trust Hub in the North Yorkshire Coast Opportunity Area. A Hub is a ten-year, place-based response to the challenges of intergenerational low literacy. You will work with local partners, and our national team, to shape and deliver activity as part of a local strategy.

This role will be part of our community programmes team, and be responsible for developing the strategic planning around literacy and embedding it within broader local priorities in the North Yorkshire Coast Opportunity Area.

You will need to be a strong team player, working closely with partners across the area, where you will be based, and with colleagues among the central National Literacy Trust team in London and at other Hub locations around the country.

One person in six in the UK has poor literacy skills that impact on every area of their life. A child without good reading, writing and communication skills can’t succeed at school, and as an adult they could be locked out of the job market. Poverty doubles the likelihood of literacy failure by the age of five.

We are a national charity dedicated to raising literacy levels in the UK. Our research and analysis make us the leading authority on literacy. We run projects in the poorest communities, campaign to make literacy a priority for politicians and parents, and support schools. Our mission is to give young people the literacy skills they need to get a job and lead a successful life.

As well as a competitive salary, we offer benefits including a generous annual leave allowance of 28 days (plus bank holidays and office closure between Christmas and new year), and pensions contributions of 8% of annual salary.

This role is based in Scarborough, Whitby or Filey and provides an opportunity for secondment for employees of local authorities in the area, or aligned services.
