Post: Bay Production Manager

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: 40 hours per week. Hours as agreed. Please note that flexibility will be needed at times, including very occasional Saturday morning working to meet the varying needs of the business.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to provide effective leadership and management of people and work processes using a quality assured led approach to support the Bay's manufacturing activity.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Quality Management System (QMS)

  • Ensure Company's Standardised Operating Procedures (SOP’s) are in place, understood and complied with by the team.

  • Ensure that the company’s Quality Objectives are effectively communicated and understood by the team.

  • Ensure the wider Management team obtains feedback about how to improve the SOP’s & the QMS.

  • Ensure that non-conformance issues are reported, costed and acted upon.

  • Provide KPI reporting information to support productivity measurement.

  • Assist with the monitoring and implementation of preventative action in support of continuous improvement measures.

Performance & Productivity

  • Take the lead responsibility for achieving the designated production schedule include the management of the Bay's production boards.

  • Maximise performance and efficiencies within the team – this includes steering, guiding & controlling the management of labour, plant utilisation, wastage, quality, house-keeping and basic health and safety.

  • Trouble shoot and problem solve immediate or unexpected issues within agreed capabilities.

  • Work with the Company Engineer to ensure all plant and equipment is functional, safe and fit for purpose.

  • Manage CRM entries in relation to Bay activity

People and Team Working

  • Work cohesively with other Bay Production Managers to ensure production as a whole runs smoothly and efficiently.

  • With the support of HR, assume overall responsibility for all people management activities (including, timesheet reporting for payroll, absence management, appraisals, performance management & recruitment)

  • Determine, co-ordinate and ensure that the skills and training needs for the production facility are achieved through the training resources available, in pursuit of fulfilling current and future business needs.

  • Ensure all people records are kept up to date.

  • Lead, coach and motivate the workforce to achieve individual, team and company objectives and future development.

  • Facilitate, manage and maintain an open culture where all employees take a pride and a responsibility in what they do and feel a sense of involvement and self-worth.

  • Ensure excellence in staff communication is promoted throughout production via meetings with SMO's as well as Team Briefs to ensure you inform and involve all relevant personnel.

Health & Safety

  • Ensure that Risk assessments within your area of responsibility are undertaken (with the support of others) and are reviewed and reassessed as per Company policy.

  • Ensure that work areas are kept tidy.

  • Be responsible to ensure the team wears the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) issued, at all times, whilst on duty.

  • Report hazards. (HDR)

  • Ensure that the team adhere to good practice moving & handling techniques as products within this department can be heavy & unwieldy.

  • Abide by all health and safety procedures in workplace and ensure that safe working procedures are adhered to to ensure the Company meets relevant H&S statutory obligations.

  • Ensure adequate First Aider cover is in place in conjunction with the wider team

General Duties

  • Contribute ideas & suggestions to strengthen department work practices

  • Participate in training relevant to the post and team objectives.

  • Participate in meetings as required.

  • Operate within a code of confidentiality as required.

  • Support cover arrangements as requested by your line manager.

  • Work collaboratively with others to fulfil your responsibilities.
