The Hall, the Home of Dementia Forward

The Hall Care Home is now the home to Yorkshire Coast charity Dementia Forward providing support to the local area.

The charity is recognised as a vital source of information, advice and support as well as being a strong voice for people living with dementia.  It has a ‘local for local’ approach, using the resource of local community and partnership working to its full.

The Hall Care Home specialise in looking after those living with dementia and have vast knowledge on how to deliver the most appropriate care. We work very closely with the charity Dementia Forward and our Chairman, Chris Mitchell, gained a degree in Dementia Studies at Bradford University in 2015.

Chris Mitchell says,

The Dementia Forward team are based here full time, either in their offices here or out in the community promoting Dementia Awareness and we are delighted to have them with us! Why not touch base with them to have a confidential chat regarding a family member or friend living with dementia. You will be amongst friends.

The staff team is supported and strengthened by a highly-skilled and motivated board of trustees and committed volunteers, in partnership with the statutory and voluntary sector. One of the charity’s aims is to ‘knit’ dementia support into the everyday lives of the local community, so that there is a higher level of understanding and people can continue to live well in their own communities.

Dementia Forward

Dementia Forward work with individuals and families to provide person centred support and a one stop shop offering information and advice for those living with dementia in the North Yorkshire area.

Dementia Forward run weekly well-being cafes around North Yorkshire where people living with dementia can come together every week for soup, coffee, cake and a chatter. These cafes are staffed by our highly skilled support advisers and our wonderful volunteers and provide a fun, safe and social space for people to meet and make friends.

We believe that it is possible to live well with dementia for as long as possible, and we support and encourage our clients to actively engage in their local and wider community and to continue to do the things they enjoy doing for as long as possible.

We endeavour to work with everyone in our communities to enable them to recognise how they can become more dementia friendly and support people who might want to use their services or to join their groups.  Dementia Forward offer awareness and training programmes for a wide range of organisations and community groups, please contact us to arrange.

Volunteer with Dementia Forward

Do you have some free time? Why not consider volunteering to help people in the community live well with dementia.

Here is a small selection of the ways to get involved:

  • Wellbeing Café Volunteer  ( Across North Yorkshire ) – Serve refreshments, chat to people and join in with games and activities.
  • Singing Volunteer ( Pickering and Harrogate) – Serve refreshments, welcome people to the group and support them to join in.
  • Fundraising Volunteer (All areas across North Yorkshire)  – Help us raise funds either by holding an event or helping at one of ours, individually or as part of a group.

In addition to the roles above, there are various volunteer opportunities at the dementia hub in Burton Leonard (between Ripon and Harrogate), from gardening to providing transport, activities volunteers to singing.

In an open letter to potential volunteers, Dementia Forward's Volunteer Co-ordinator said:

“We are here to support you to find the right role. There is no experience necessary and we are a friendly bunch, so please get in touch either by phone or by filling in our enquiry form below. It would be great to have you on board”.
