Encouraging youngsters to be active

Community Support Initiatives

McCain Active Youth Scheme

One of McCain’s key community support initiatives is around encouraging healthy, active lifestyles in the communities where it operates.

In Scarborough, the company supports a number of activities that give youngsters the opportunity to be active.

Three years ago, McCain started a partnership with Scarborough RUFC, to deliver the Club’s Active Youth Scheme. The Scheme provides rugby training to hundreds of young girls and boys in the Scarborough area – teaching them a number of key transferable skills such as teamwork, problem solving and respect. To date, the scheme has reached over 3,000 young people.

McCain Active Youth Fun Run

The McCain Yorkshire Coast 10k also encourages children to get involved in sports through the two shorter ‘fun runs’ along our coastline that are a key part of the event. The 2.5km and 1.5km fun runs are only £1 to enter, and the event’s charity partner, Yorkshire Coast Homes, subsidise entries made from schools and sports clubs.

Last year, more than 700 youngsters took part in the event, which is a record for Scarborough and no doubt other similar events across the country!

Entries for the 2017 event will open in June.
