Healthy Hearts Campaign

Each year the Mayor of the Borough of Scarborough chooses a campaign to champion during their year in office.

This campaign was run by Cllr Joe Plant during his term as Mayor of the Borough of Scarborough 2018-2019.

I have chosen Healthy Hearts as my theme for the year, I will be supporting and raising awareness of local heart nurses delivering patient care, I want to do some fundraising for equipment for them and for the heart rehab team that helps patients along the road to recovery and to look after their health and fitness.

I will be raising awareness of the local British Heart Foundation shops, which thrive thanks to the generosity of local communities and the incredible people who work in them.

Heart failure can often have a major effect on the quality of life of patients and their families.

The Yorkshire Coast benefits from a small team of Heart Failure Specialist nurses. These nurses work closely with patients and their families to empower them to self-manage their condition and reduce unnecessary hospital admissions.

Specialist Nurse Sharon Parsons explains what they do and the impact that heart conditions have on peoples lives.

The British Heart Foundation fund over £100 million of research each year into all heart and circulatory diseases and the things that cause them. Heart diseases. Stroke. Vascular Dementia. Diabetes.

Their research has given us machines that can restart hearts, the ability to fix arteries in tiny babies, devices to correct heartbeats, the power to give someone a heart they weren’t born with, and so much more.

Heart and circulatory diseases still kill 1 in 4 people in the UK causing heartbreak on every street.

Jane Horsnell From the British Heart Foundation talks about the work they do, how we can all help them fund their vital research and why public support is vital.

The British Heart Foundation run a number of ships in the Scarborough Borough which are always looking for donations and volunteers. You can find details about the local shops below.
