It's Time to Talk about Mental Health in Scarborough

Hosted by the Mental Health Foundation, this year for Mental Health Awareness week, The Brunswick Shopping Centre are working alongside local groups including Scarborough, Whitby & Ryedale Mind, The Samaritans and Yoga Yorkshire to stage taster workshops and drop-in sessions at the shopping centre.

The planned activity will run from Monday 14th until Friday 18th May as part of Mental Health Awareness Week 2018. Sessions will include mindfulness and art therapy, yoga & meditation. Also available will be tips on looking after your mental health while working, studying and being at home, with charities giving information on their services in the area.

Let's Tackle Stress

The theme for this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week is stress. Research has shown that two-thirds of people experience a mental health problem in their lifetime, and stress is a key factor in this. By tackling stress, we can go a long way to overcome mental health problems such as anxiety and depression, and, in some instances, self-harm and suicide.

Promoting Good Mental Health & Positive Wellbeing

Victoria Mitchell, centre manager, Brunswick added: “Mental Health Awareness Week is hugely beneficial to reduce stigma and provides a focus for those people seeking help or advice regarding any mental health concerns they may have. We are extremely pleased that local charities and groups are working with us to stage our activities and we are delighted to create a platform at the shopping centre to promote good mental health and positive wellbeing for all”
