Scarborough Raft Race 2012!

26th December 2012

Hello!

Great day at Scarborough Harbour for the 40th Annual Boxing Day Raft Race! I turned up with my full sound system but found they already had one set up, so, using theirs I did some build up on the microphone and some commentary during the race!

Thanks to the many hundreds who turned out to watch the raft race. The wind was howling so for those there early to get a good viewpoint it must have been really cold by the start!

Credit to ALL those who took part. As well as battling the wind on makeshift rafts, most ended up in the icey North Sea and on top of that there was the usual barrage of eggs and flour bombs! The slipway looked like a perfect snow scene with all that flour!

As part of my new 'Paddy In The Morning' show, i'll be getting out and about at many events like this! If you want me and Yorkshire Coast Radio at your event in 2013 then get in touch! Email me: paddy@yorkhshirecoastradio.com or tweet me at both @YorksCoastRadio and @paddybillington .

If you've been listening the last day or so, you may have heard some pre show on air trails! I'm getting really excited now! Less than a week to go til 'the first show. Please give it a try on Wednesday 2nd January! I'll be live from 6am until 10am.

However you're spending Christmas week I hope you're having a great festive break!

Paddy's Coming Home!

24th December 2012

Merry Christmas to you and all your family & friends! I'm really excited about presenting 'Paddy In The Morning' from Wednesday 2nd January! Born and bred in Scarborough, i've never lived anywhere else despite working everywhere else! I'm now a Dad of 2 and my eldest starts school in 2013 so we're very much settled here!

I really can't think of a better place to bring up my children. My childhood memories are filled with trips to the beach rockpooling in Scarborough's South Bay or walking along the old railway line from Ravenscar to Robin Hood's Bay or getting lost in the caves at Flamborough. I still get lost in the caves at Flamborough!

My new show will be fun with loads of banter with you my listeners plus big competitions, great celebrity guests, all the info on what's happening in your town or village that day and of course the latest local news, sport, weather and travel updated regularly through the show and plenty of great music to ease you through these dark mornings!

I'm really passionate about this stretch of coastline. There's nowhere I'd rather be and I can't wait to share that passion with you on air!

I can't wait to take the show to every place on the coast so if there's an event you reckon I should be hosting or attending, please get in touch! I will reply and do what I can to be there! I'm hoping to launch 'Paddy's Pub Party' very soon and also host some great family events!

Listen out for things like "The Buzz About Town" and "Street Of The Week" and "Who's Laughing Now" and a really exciting new feature to start your workday at 9am!

Come and say hello to me this Boxing Day as i'm hosting Scarborough's legendary Raft Race on Scarborough Harbour (on the big slip way opposote the Golden Ball).

Plenty to look forward to! Meantime.. Have a listen below to one of the on-air trails you can hear over the next week or so! This is a good luck message from my daughter! Leave one by calling 07921 490374!

I'll post some pictures from the Raft Race on Wednesday but TTFN and have a great Christmas!

PADDY :)

Bridlington's Christmas Festival

20th December 2012

We had an amazing day in Bridlington's Promanades Shopping Centre. A day of Festive carols from local schools and an amazing Elvis tribute act that kept shoppers dancing all day long.

Could it be a Christmas No1 for the Yorkshire Coast

18th December 2012

Castleton-born singer Alistair Griffin was inspired to write "I Wish For You The World" after watching Team GB triumph at London 2012.

He's recorded the tune with The Games Maker Choir and it's a contender for Christmas No1.

It's raising money for Olympians and Paralympians of the future.

I chatted to Alistair and Choir Leader Liz Stanthorpe.

I started by asking Alistair if he often gets home to Castleton:

And here's another little clip of the song:
