Public File

The Public File contains details on Yorkshire Coast Radio's 'format' and commitment to 'localness'.

Each local commercial radio station in the UK has obligations relating to it's programmes, including music and local content.  These obligations are set out in the station format which forms part of the Public File.

The Public File is also available in hard copy, and is avaialable to view at Yorkshire Coast Radio's office at Unit 2B, Newchase Business Centre, Hopper Hill Road, Scarborough YO11 3YS.  A copy can be obtained by writing to the same address.

1. News

We broadcast news bulletins containing a mix of local, national and international news hourly from 7am to 6pm inclusive each weekday.  In addition we broadcast news headlines on the half-hour from 6.30am until 5.30pm (excluding 9.30am and 1.30pm).  Sport bulletins are broadcast at 7.30am, 8.30am, 1pm, 4.30pm, 5.30pm and 6pm each weekday.  We broadcast a buisness news bulletin at 1pm and 6pm each weekday.  Bulletins containing national and international news are broadcast on the hour at all other times.

At the weekend we broadcast news bulletins containing a mix of local, national and international news hourly from 8am until 1pm (Sunday 12noon) inclusive.  Sports bulletins are broadcast at 9.30am, 10.30am and 11.30am.  Bulletins containing national and international news are broadcast on the hour at all other times.

5. Automated Programming

Some of Yorkshire Coast Radio's programming is 'automated' during off-peak hours.  During daytime hours automated programming is broadcast between 1pm and 2pm each weekday, 12noon - 6pm on Saturday and 12pm - 4pm on Sunday.

6. Local Programming

All of Yorkshire Coast Radio's programming is broadcast locally from studios in Scarborough with the exception of The Lunchtime Game Show each Sunday 12noon - 2pm, and The Big Top 40 Show each Sunday 4pm - 7pm.

7. Localness Guidelines

The government regulator OFCOM has responsibility for radio.  OFCOM has produced localness guidelines which Yorkshire Coast Radio is required to adhere to.  These guidelines can be found here.

All radio stations have written formats that they must adhere to.

Yorkshire Coast Radio supports many local charities and voluntary organisations, including St Catherine's Hospice, Cancer Research UK, Macmillan, Marie Curie and more.  Details of events in the area, promoted by the station, can be found here.
