Scarborough Athletic Secure 3-1 Victory In Cup
8:17am 11th January 2017
Scarborough Athletic are through to the next round of the Integro League Cup, after Tuesday night's 3-1 home victory over Spennymoor Town.
Boro started strongly and went 1-0 up on 12 minutes when Benny Igiehon finished from close range to cap an excellent team move.
The visitors, mainly made up of players from the U18 setup, battled hard and equalised when Steven Murphy's shot from the edge of the area was heavily deflected beyond the despairing dive of Boro keeper Jordan Porter.
The home side took control after the break and missed a number of chances to score a second goal, with Igiehon and Cameron Murray both missing guilt-edged opportunities to hit the back of the net.
With frustration starting to grow, the second goal eventually arrived as Igiehon rose highest to head in an Adam Bolder corner to give Boro some breathing space.
Late on substitute Jake Day showed good strength to hold off the last defender, the striker finishing past the onrushing Spennymoor keeper to send Steve Kittrick's side through to the next round.
