Scarborough Athletic Prepare For New Stadium
6:01am 4th January 2017
2017 is set to be an exciting year for football in Scarborough, as the town's team return home after 10 years.
Scarborough Athletic have shared grounds with Bridlington Town ever since the previous club was wound up back in 2007.
But from this summer, they'll be moving into a brand new stadium at the new leisure village at Weaponness.
Will Baines from Scarborough Athletic FC said:
"I was lucky enough to go down to the site just before Christmas, and it's great to see the progress that has been made. The structure for the main stand is now fully in place with a terracing on one end of the site. The pitch will be going down towards the end of January and I think that's when the site will turn from a construction site towards looking like a football ground.
Seeing Scarborough coming home is going to be fantastic for everyone involved with the club, it's been a long ten years getting to this point. I think it will be a really emotional day for the directors and volunteers, and supporters as well because they've had to put in the hard yards going through to Bridlington to play the home matches, every game has felt like an away match to be honest. It's going to be fantastic to see football played back in the town and we can't wait."
