OSGODBY VILLAGE COUNCIL. Members held their monthly meeting at the Poachers Barn under the chairmanship of Cllr Philip King. Present were Cllrs Robert Clough, vice-chairman, Alan Gregory, Avril Gregory, Helen Penney, Peter Southward, Eileen Vickers and John Wilkinson, village clerk Tony Spencer, County Cllr Brian Simpson, Borough Cllrs John Blackburn and Simon Green, Brian Bennett, Scarborough Borough Council’s Head of Tourism and Culture, a member of the police and two members of the public. WELCOME TO OSGODBY !
OSGODBY is an ancient village. It flourished before the Norman Conquest but in the Domesday Book it is shown as laying waste at that time, 1086. It flourished again in the 13th and 14th centuries with about forty to fifty houses in the Osgodby House area, then it declined in the 15th and 16th centuries. Osgodby Hall, now a public house, was built in the 18th century on the foundations of the original manor house which was built about 1275 with an adjoining chantry chapel, of which the only surviving window was destroyed in 1969 during a reconstruction.
