Cancer research

 

Whitby's Cancer Research Shop on Baxtergate is appealing for stock.

You can drop off any unwanted clothes and goods or call (01947) 820189 to have them picked up.

They also need volunteers. Phone or drop in for more information.

Meting PlaceThe Child Contact Centre at Pavilion Square in Scarborough offers children from separated families along the Yorkshire Coast, the chance to meet with an absent parent.

They need volunteers to help run contact sessions.

If you can spare some time, particularly on Fridays and Saturdays, please call Helen Evans on (01723) 377388.

No experience is necessary, training will be provided.

Arthritis Research UK

The Arthritis Research UK shop on Newborough in Scarborough are looking for donations of stock and volunteers.

Bridwatch

Bridwatch helps tackle crime in Bridlington, providing advice and information to individuals and Neighbourhood Watch groups at their base on Quay Road.

Scarborough & District Dial-A-Ride provides transport for older people and people with disabilities in and around the Scarborough & Filey area.

They're looking for volunteer drivers and passenger escorts. Drivers need to be over 21, but passenger escorts need only to be over 18. Ideally, you'll be able to work at least one full day a week.

Full training and support is given.

There are Sue Ryder Charity Shops raising money to provide care for people with life-limiting illnesses in Scarborough, Whitby, Bridlington and Filey.

They're always looking for stock donations.

The Barnardo's shop on Aberdeen Walk, Scarborough are looking for donations of stock including clothing, books, small electrical goods and bric-a-brac.

The shop is open 9-5 Monday to Friday and 10-4 on Sundays.

St Catherines

 

St Catherine's Hospice are always looking for volunteers for their charity shops along the Yorkshire Coast.

Volunteers need to have customer service skills and if possible a basic computer knowledge.

There are also opportunties to undertake an NVQ in retail.

Scarborough Blind & Partially Sighted Society Shop on Falsgrave Road, Scarborough are looking for volunteers to join their team.

The shop is open Monday to Saturday 9.45am - 4.45pm.

You can work hours to suit, sorting, ironing and cashiering.

Good customer service is a must.

Great for getting back into work and building confidence.

Scarborough Food Bank


Scarborough Food Bank is newly established charitable organisation, the aim of which is to provide food parcels to families in time of crisis, the vunerable elderly and the homeless of Scarborough.

Any and all donations of non-perishable foods would be most gratefully received at the Salvation Army Hall on Alma Parade, Scarborough between 10 and 2 weekdays.

Whitby's Trinity Day Centre


The Trinity Day Centre offers crafts, quizzes, bingo, dominoes and many other social activities for older people in Whitby and the surrounding villages.

The Centre has its own minibus offering a door to door pick up/drop off service.

They're fundraising to keep it running.

SCARBOROUGH DISTRICT TALKING NEWS AUDIO BOOK LIBRARY

 

Scarborough District Talking News Audio Book Library has a large selection of specially adapted Audio Books available for loan to visually impaired people. These books are available on cassette, CD and USB memory stick.

If any visually impaired people would like to take advantage of this free service please call (01723) 377524.

Also if anyone has Audio books they no longer require and would like to donate them to us please call.
